Male Face of the Year of 2010

The fashion industry is full of female supermodels. Their images are paraded on television, magazines and advertisements. Though they might not quite stand out as much as their female counterparts, male models have become an essential fact in the fashion industry today.


It takes lots of hard work, drive and dedication to excel as a male model. Each of the 14 young men had to be trained, groomed and made physically fit to meet up to the standards demanded in the fashion scene. They who had not so much as walked a ramp a couple of months back went through a series of model training sessions with Brian Kerkoven before they appeared on stage to take part in the 'Oriflame Male Face of the Year of 2010' competition, a first of its kind put together by the company, which took place at the Taj Samundra Hotel, Colombo, on January 8. The event was held to coincide with the launch of Oriflame's newest addition to the market, 'North for Men Fairness Lotion' in the isle.



After an array of sections such as beach wear, casuals and evening wear provided by Beverly Street and Carlo, five contestants made it to the semi-finals before three were elected through a question and answer session for the finals. Prabudda Rangana bagged the title of 'Oriflame Male Face of the Year of 2010' while Harsha Dabare clinched the first runner-up title and Yohan De Saram came in as second runner up.

Ranga who also won the mini-title 'Mr. Flawless Skin' took away a Rs. 100,000 cash prize from Oriflame, the contract to be the Face of the Year for 2010, a gift voucher from Vogue Jewellers, Prizes from the Mount Lavinia Hotel, Taprosa Spa, a gift basket worth over 15,000 from Crescat Boulevard, vouchers from Odel and a one year membership from Body Bar gym.

First runner up Dabare and second runner up De Saram also walked away with prizes worth Rs.50,000 and Rs.30,000 from Oriflame and gift vouchers from Vogue Jewellers and memberships at the Body Bar gym.

Speaking at the event Oriflame Sri Lanka Managing Director Pierre Martensson said that the company is expanding the men's personal care range.

"There is an immense demand in the market for the products. We received a tremendous response for the competition and all the competitors were eager to take part and give the best of what they have to offer for the event," he added.


A selection of mini-titles: 'Mr. Catwalk', 'Mr. Personality', 'Mr.Physique' and 'Mr.Photogenic' went to Harsha Vivendra, Samoda Hettikankanamage, Kasun Ishara Silva and Asanka Premananda. Managing Director Oriflame Sri Lanka Pierre Martemsson, renowned fashion designer and media personality Keerthi Sri Karunaratne, former Mr. Sri Lanka for Mr. World and Mr. International Duminda De Silva, theater personality and producer Jerome De Silva, globally acclaimed photographer Allifiya Akbarally, International fashion designer Dinesh Chandrasena and Vice President of the Grant group Laila Gunesekere Martenstyn comprised the jury.

"The male population of the country had become extremely concerned about their skin and well being. This motivated us to launch the Fairness Lotion which is part of the 'North for Men' product line in Sri Lanka," Oriflame Sri Lanka Marketing Manager Kanny Gordon noted adding that the fairness range for men had shown a promising growth in the Asian range.
